What is a proofreader?
A proofreader completes a surface check of your content as a last step before publishing. A proofreader corrects spelling and grammatical errors, punctuation, and formatting. However, more than this, a proofreader is responsible for preserving your voice and elevating your message to your audience and taking it to the next level.
Why do you need a proofreader?
Misspelled words and grammatical errors take away from the impact you want your content to have on your reader. It causes readers to second guess the validity of the information and how much they can trust what they’re reading. Having a polished product could be the difference in a flawless experience and one that falls flat.
What is copyediting?
In addition to proofreading, copyediting provides a more technical approach to reviewing text. Copyediting includes verifying the accuracy of facts as well as flagging potential copyright and trademark issues. It also flags style and content inconsistencies, holes in plots, repetition, and awkward phrasing.
Why should you work with me?
Spotting errors and inconsistencies come naturally to me. One of the reasons I decided to pursue proofreading and copyediting is due to the number of times I was turned off by an author’s work or the labeling on a product due to errors in their text. I believe your content should speak for itself and to your brand when you aren’t around. I believe your voice should be heard in the message you want to present to your readers…and I aim to ensure just that!
